I’m not sure if there is a salad that screams “Summer” louder than a basic creamy cucumber salad. This salad is incredibly refreshing and quick to prepare, making it the ideal accompaniment for any summer meal.

Our cucumber salad is a timeless summer dish consisting of cucumbers, onions, and a straightforward creamy dressing. Although the dressing may differ depending on the recipe, we present you with the ingredients for our version of this refreshing salad.

Can I Use Fresh Dill?

Creamy Cucumber Salad is commonly prepared using fresh dill. However, as fresh dill can occasionally be challenging to locate or costly, I have created the following recipe using dried dill instead. If fresh dill is readily available to you, feel free to substitute it by using approximately 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh dill in place of the dried dill mentioned below.

To Peel or Not to Peel the Cucumbers

The decision of whether or not to peel the cucumbers is entirely yours. While I appreciate the vibrant color the peel adds, it’s worth mentioning that some individuals may experience digestive discomfort from cucumber peels. Therefore, feel free to remove the peel if you prefer. Additionally, if you find the seeds bothersome, you can also choose to scrape them out.

How Are the Leftovers?

The optimal time to enjoy this salad is right after it is prepared. If refrigerated for more than a day, the salt in the dressing will extract moisture from the cucumbers, resulting in a watery salad. However, there are solutions to this issue. You can easily adjust the recipe to make a smaller portion, or if you anticipate having leftovers for a few days, you can pre-salt the cucumbers to remove excess water. It’s worth noting that salting the cucumbers will make them softer, but personally, it’s not my preferred method.

In order to pre-salt the cucumbers, you need to place the sliced cucumbers in a large colander and mix them with ½ tsp salt. Allow the cucumbers to drain for approximately 30 minutes, and then use a paper towel to remove any excess moisture. As the cucumbers will already have a certain amount of salt, there is no need to include salt in the sour cream dressing. Rather, add salt according to your preference once you have prepared the salad.

How to Make Creamy Cucumber Salad – Step by Step Photos

Start by preparing the dressing. Combine ½ cup of sour cream, ½ teaspoon of dried dill, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and ½ teaspoon of salt in a bowl, and stir well.

If desired, you can peel the cucumbers. Proceed to slice one large cucumber and thinly slice ¼ of a red onion.

Place the cucumber, onion, and dressing into a spacious bowl.
