Where Do I Find Oyster Sauce?

You can typically locate oyster sauce in the International section of most major supermarkets (check near hoisin sauce). However, if you are unable to find it there, it is advisable to visit an Asian market, as oyster sauce is usually more affordable compared to chain grocery stores.

What Can I Use in Place of Oyster Sauce?

In my opinion, the distinct and savory taste of oyster sauce is what defines this dish, and I would not recommend replacing it. However, some readers have mentioned using hoisin sauce, which has a sweeter profile, and have been satisfied with the outcome. If you decide to substitute oyster sauce in this garlic noodles recipe, please be aware of the potential risks involved.

How to Make Garlic Noodles – Step by Step Photos

Before you start, prepare the simple noodle sauce. Combine 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame oil in a small bowl. Stir until everything is well mixed.

To start, heat a generously sized pot of water until it reaches boiling point. Proceed to cook the pasta as instructed on the package. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set it aside. Meanwhile, finely chop four garlic cloves and slice approximately four green onions, equivalent to half a bunch.

In a large skillet, melt 4 Tbsp of butter over medium-low heat. After the butter has melted, incorporate the minced garlic and the majority of the sliced green onions, setting aside a small portion for garnishing. Sauté the garlic and green onions until they become soft and emit a delightful aroma, which typically takes about 1-2 minutes.

Take the skillet off the heat, and proceed to include the cooked and drained pasta along with the prepared sauce.

Place the ingredients in the skillet and stir until the pasta is fully covered in sauce. Sprinkle the garlic noodles with the saved green onions and present.

Be cautious, as this simple Garlic Noodles Recipe is incredibly addictive.
