Glazed Ham Steaks

I’m not sure about you, but it seems like Thanksgiving was only yesterday and I am not prepared to cook another elaborate meal just yet. Therefore, for Christmas, I have decided to opt for these incredibly easy ham steaks instead of a whole glazed ham. They are extremely fast to prepare, satisfy my craving for ham, and allow me to fully enjoy a relaxing Christmas day. 😎 These glazed ham steaks are both delicious and simple, making them a strong contender to become a regular part of my dinner rotation.

What Kind of Ham to Use

I prefer using a ½-inch thick sliced ham steak for this recipe as it provides a more substantial main dish experience. You can find various options for sliced ham or sliced ham quarters in the grocery store, typically located near the refrigerated cured meats section. Feel free to choose any of these options as they are all suitable. In case you have thinly sliced ham, you can simply reduce the cooking time during the browning step. Additionally, you might need to prepare a larger amount of glaze if you’re aiming to cover more pieces.

Other Glaze Options

The glaze utilized in this recipe is a delightful combination of sweetness and a hint of tanginess. It transforms into a delightful sticky glaze when reduced. Although the flavor of Dijon mustard is not prominent, you can easily substitute it with a sweet-spicy-smoky rub, similar to the one I used in my Glazed Pork Chops recipe, if you prefer or have it readily available.

How are the Leftovers?

I absolutely adored eating the leftover ham. I loved it so much that I’m considering meal prepping it regularly! Even though glazes like this lose their clear and glossy appearance in the fridge, they still taste amazing!

What to Serve with Glazed Ham Steaks

I paired my glazed ham with Roasted Brussels Sprouts and a baked sweet potato, however, it would also complement traditional dishes such as Homemade Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad, Three Bean Salad, Roasted Broccoli, or a Broccoli Cheese Casserole.

If I were to serve a mini Christmas Dinner, I would likely complement it with Potatoes Au Gratin, Balsamic Glazed Carrots, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and Apple Walnut Stuffing.

How to Make Glazed Ham Steaks – Step by Step Photos

To begin, prepare the glaze. Mix together ¼ cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, ⅛ teaspoon of garlic powder, and ⅛ teaspoon of ground cloves in a small bowl.

I utilized these ham steaks for the recipe. Feel free to choose any kind of ham steak, but if they happen to be thinner than ½-inch, make sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly, as it will be shorter than the estimated time I provided.

The ham steaks were each 8oz., so I sliced them in half to make four 4oz. portions. Feel free to divide your ham however you prefer.

Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, swirl the skillet to ensure the surface is coated. Place the ham in the skillet and cook for a few minutes on each side, or until it is browned.

First, spread half of the glaze mixture onto the ham steaks using a spoon. Next, flip the steaks over and apply the remaining glaze.

Continue cooking the ham for an additional minute or two on each side, or until the glaze has been reduced.

Enjoy with your preferred sides, served hot!
