Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken

During this season, I make it a point to refrain from using the oven as much as possible. So, what’s on the menu for dinner when the heat is unbearable? Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken! This delicious chicken can be prepared in the slow cooker, allowing you to relax and enjoy a leisurely summer day. Additionally, unlike a blazing oven, the slow cooker won’t force your air conditioner to work extra hard. 😉

It’s hard to believe how simple it is to make this slow cooker BBQ chicken. All you need to do is sprinkle some seasonings on boneless, skinless chicken breasts, smother them with your preferred BBQ sauce, and start cooking. After a few hours, you’ll have incredibly tender, tangy, and scrumptious chicken, swimming in a delightful sauce.

What Size Slow Cooker to Use

If your slow cooker has a capacity of around 5 quarts like mine does, and it was only filled to about ¼ of its capacity, then you can certainly opt for a smaller cooker if you prefer. However, I would advise against going for a larger one. It’s important to note that certain slow cookers may require a minimum amount of food to be filled in order to prevent cracking. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult your owner’s manual before making any decisions.

What Kind of BBQ Sauce to Use

You have the freedom to choose any BBQ sauce for this chicken dish. I personally tried it with a simple and affordable BBQ sauce to ensure it remains delicious without breaking the bank. However, feel free to elevate it by opting for a more premium BBQ sauce. Additionally, you can experiment with various flavors such as smoky, honey, pineapple, spicy, and more.

How Do You Serve Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken?

The traditional approach to presenting this chicken involves placing it on a bun, resembling a timeless BBQ chicken sandwich. Enhance its flavors by including coleslaw and pickles for an added deliciousness! However, feel free to explore other options for this BBQ chicken such as tacos, pizza, bowl meals, baked potatoes or sweet potatoes, nachos, or even salads.

What to Serve with Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken

I consistently choose traditional comfort food sides like potato salad, mac and cheese, three bean salad, or Cowboy Caviar whenever I prepare BBQ dishes.

In a small bowl, mix together 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over both sides of two boneless, skinless chicken breasts, which should weigh approximately 1.3 pounds in total.

The chicken should be placed at the bottom of the slow cooker, ensuring it is fully covered by pouring one 18oz. bottle of BBQ sauce over it.

Cover the slow cooker with the lid and set it to cook on high for 2.5 hours or on low for 4-5 hours.

To shred the chicken, employ two forks. If the chicken does not effortlessly separate, consider allowing it to cook for a bit longer.

After thoroughly coating the chicken in BBQ sauce, give it a good stir to ensure even distribution. Now, it is ready to be served!

I’m craving a generous serving of BBQ Chicken Nachos right now. 🤤
