Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe

I have previously prepared homemade pizza sauce, but this time I desired a thicker and richer version since I had exciting plans to use it as a dip for pizzadillas. Dipping sauces need to be adequately thick to cling onto the items being dunked, while also enjoying a thick pizza sauce on my pizzas. A thick pizza sauce delivers all the flavor without compromising the texture of the dough. Rest assured, there will be no watery pizza sauce in my kitchen!

Homemade Pizza Sauce is incredibly versatile and can be used for more than just pizzas. This deliciously thick and flavorful sauce is now my preferred choice for any red sauce needs. How to Store Leftover Pizza Sauce

If you find yourself with extra pizza sauce from this recipe, it is recommended to freeze the remaining sauce. A quart-sized freezer bag is ideal for this purpose. When reheating, simply remove the sauce from the freezer bag and transfer it to a small sauce pot. Heat it over low heat, stirring frequently, until it is thoroughly heated.

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add one minced garlic clove (or two if you prefer a stronger garlic flavor) and cook for approximately one to two minutes until the garlic becomes soft and releases its aromatic fragrance.

To prepare the sauce, include the following ingredients into the sauce pot: a 28oz. can of crushed tomatoes, a 6oz. can of tomato paste, 1/2 tablespoon of sugar, 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano, a generous amount of freshly cracked pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes.

Combine the ingredients by stirring them together, cover with a lid, and let it reach a simmer. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and allow it to simmer for at least 15 minutes (sometimes, I prefer to let it simmer longer while I prepare the pizza dough, as the flavor intensifies and becomes even sweeter).
